PreserVision® Range
PreserVision® can be chosen by those who are seeking a food supplement to help preserve eye health. The original formula is a high-potency antioxidant formulation that was developed by Bausch & Lomb in conjunction with the National Eye Institute (NEI) in the United States for testing in a long term eye health study.
Three types of PreserVision® are available. PreserVision® Original is available in tablet and soft gel form. There is an alternative for smokers or those who may benefit from a higher intake of lutein, available as PreserVision® Lutein.
PreserVision® Original
PreserVision® Original is a high potency antioxidant food supplement containing beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, zinc and copper. PreserVision® Original has been formulated to optimise the dietary intake of nutrients important to the eye. It is the only formulation developed in conjunction with the National Eye Institute (NEI). The formulation, tested in the NEI study, is available in tablet form. A soft gel form is available which is based on the original formulation.PreserVision® Lutein
PreserVision® Lutein (soft gels) is specifically formulated as an alternative for people who have a high exposure to outdoor blue light, those who smoke or have smoked in the past, or those for whom a higher level of lutein may be relevant. Current or former smokers are recommended to avoid food supplements that contain beta-carotene, as these may increase their risk of tobacco-related cancers. Research also indicates that smokers may also have less lutein and zeaxanthin pigment in their macula.
Preservision® Lutein is similar to the PreserVision® Original formula, but replaces vitamin A with 10mg of lutein. Lutein supplementation is a practical way to help ensure adequate lutein intake, helping sustain serum lutein concentrations and macular pigment density.
